Water and fuel mixture exits a drain line in Oahu.
The U.S. Navy is investigating the leak of water and fuel from a drain line at the Red Hill fuel storage facility near Pearl Harbor that was detected on Saturday. The spill released 14,000 gallons of the fluid mixture from a drain line. The Navy reported that the leak has been contained and the fuel transferred from underground tunnels to a storage tank above ground.
Navy officials notified the Hawaiian Department of Health on Saturday, but maintain there is no danger to Oahu’s main aquifer 100 feet below. “There are no signs or indication of any releases to the environment, and the drinking water remains safe to drink,“ the Navy stated.
Concerns grow as leaks have occurred at the World War II-era storage facility periodically since 2014.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Navy officials as they investigate the leak and for appropriate solutions to prevent future spills.
- For Hawaiian leaders as they monitor the health of their inhabitants and test the drinking water.
- For the spill to not contaminate the main source of water for the majority of the urban areas.
